1. The question you asked after the panel discussion (10 marks)

  1. For your framework/program, is there going to be a pre-assessment to determine eligibility and what kind of courses a staff member needs and do all the IENs do all the courses in this plan or only the ones that they specifically need?

2. How did you feel it was answered by (10 marks)

It was partially answered in the sense that the presenter stated what IENs need to do to get licensed when I asked this question, however there was still no information provided about what specific requirements made an IEN eligible for this as Fraser Health has rolled out a program but IENs who have worked a certain amount of hours are not eligible to register.  There was also no mention about how they would determine which courses each IEN would take or if they just took all the courses in the program regardless of what their learning needs are.

3. What went well? (5 marks)

The presentation was organized and the framework is a good idea and I liked how it particularly covers cultural differences in the nursing world amongst nursing in different countries as that is a struggle I have seen for some IENs that I have worked with.

4. What can be done better? Identify 2 or more areas of improvements (10 marks)

Mention more about what kind of different courses would be in this framework to give us an idea what kind of learning needs IENs have overall and also present could have talked more about what the mentor nurse was going to do in their role with the IEN.

5. What can be done to improve? (Provide 3 or more suggestions for improvement). (15 marks)

  1.  Could provide some brief information what education requirements IENs have to do prior to obtaining their nursing license in BC.
  2. Acknowledge that all IENs may not have the same learning needs and alter the program to fit different learning needs.
  3. There was not enough mention on how to assess or determine if IENs are competent in all clinical skills or if there was going to be any simulation education in this framework- that could have been beneficial.
