1. The question you asked after the panel discussion (10 marks)

  • The question I asked after the presentation had to do with equity and funding. I asked: What are your thoughts on how to address equity in funding, other than just basing it off of financial status? There are so many aspects to IVF other than just the treatment and medications. Thinking about low income or rural families, could this be incorporated into the website cost analysis? For example, could rides, places to stay, home shares, etc. be a part of a website too? And, in your opinion what is the best way to approach funding from this perspective, like how in Europe they pay out a percentage?

2. How did you feel it was answered by (10 marks)

  • I feel that this question was answered well and started a dialogue. I am aware that I asked quite a big question, and actually asked more than one. I knew this was complex so I was just looking for thoughts and conversation around this topic rather than a straight answer.
  • I felt that the question around how these aspects could be incorporated into the website wasn’t touched on as much as I would have liked. There is so much that goes into a financial analysis, so I realize that it is tough to include everything. However, I think mentioning the equity piece and how different funding will look from a rural or low-income perspective is important.

3. What went well? (5 marks)

  • I think the website is a great idea in itself to give a more well-rounded idea of the cost if IVF. Having this idea of a “one stop shop” for women to access when seeking IVF resources is a great idea.
  • The solution was well presented, clear and it seemed the speaker really knew what she was talking about. All of the rubric points were touched upon.
  • I thought that the speaker was engaging and did a good job of presented in person without reading off of slides. Good tone of voice, volume etc.
  • There were plenty of good resources used for the presentation.
  • Pam talked about nutrition and alternate treatments that are not covered through the funding which I appreciated as there is so much surrounding women’s health other than medications.
  • There were some really good ideas to inform the public and help women potentially save money, such as teaching generic medication swaps.
  • I through this was an informative, engaging and overall, really great presentation.

4. What can be done better? Identify 2 or more areas of improvements (10 marks)

  • I think touching on the nature of how fast healthcare changes financially would have been a good challenge to address, ie new meds, treatment costs, the fact that this funding is only in place for 2 years at this time. It was mentioned that the site would need to be kept up to date as healthcare and research is always evolving. However, I think talking about this a little more and mentioning that the funding is not permanent would have been helpful. In my opinion, this would be one of the biggest challenges to starting a website regarding the cost of IVF therapy.
  • I also think that although the goal of this project was to address something within our realm of influence and to keep our solution simple, talking a little bit more about equity in funding and how it might be incorporated into the website would be helpful as well. There is so much more than medication when it comes to financial burden around IVF. Although it is a big challenge to address, perhaps incorporating some resources in the website for places to stay, people to reach out to for transportation, and how to get these things covered would be important. Not only is every woman’s health story different (which was mentioned), but every woman’s life situation is different as well and those financial pieces could make or break some women’s IVF experience. Again, I realize that this may be another solution or project all on its own. Perhaps it could have been mentioned as a challenge to implementation and overall success/impact of a financial assistance webpage.
  • The implementation section could be expanded upon. For example, who is implementing this? Would it be a government website? Or would the health authority be in charge of this? Is there an approximate cost?
  • My only other suggestion would be that perhaps slides could be a little bit more colourful, fun and visually appealing. Saying this, I do not feel that this took away from the presentation as Pam spoke about everything that was on the slides, and I felt she barely needed them. However, I think because it was a part of the project maybe some art, colourful words, different size text, transitions and some designs could have livened up the slides and presentation a little bit.

5. What can be done to improve? (Provide 3 or more suggestions for improvement). (15 marks)

Ideas of what could be done to improve are incorporated into my areas of improvement answer.
