1. The question you asked after the panel discussion (10 marks)

In the study that you shared, improving agency-nurse workflows required things like extra training time, more support from educators, and regular troubleshooting and check-ins from nursing staff, all of which can be hard to provide on already busy units. I’m curious what you think: does enhancing orientation help address the bigger system challenges, or could it unintentionally add more pressure to permanent staff who are already stretched thin?

2. How did you feel it was answered by (10 marks)

Monica answered my question very thoughtfully and with a lot of confidence. She reinforced key points from her presentation, which really demonstrated her strong understanding of the topic and even gave hope that there are feasible ways to address this issue. One small suggestion would be for Monica to connect her response a bit more directly to the details in the study she posted, since my question was referring to those implementations. Bringing in one or two examples from the article would have strengthened the link between her answer and the research. Overall, her response was clear, grounded, and very well delivered.

3. What went well? (5 marks)

Monica’s presentation was very well done. The flow was smooth, and the overall layout made the content easy to follow and understand. She began with a clear summary of the issue, explained a few key points, and then moved into a thorough explanation of her proposed solution. I especially liked how she outlined the specific resources that would be provided to agency nurses, which made her solution feel realistic and feasible. Monica also identified the key leaders she would collaborate with and clearly connected the issue and her solution to patient safety. This really helped to ground the solution in nursing priorities. She concluded by acknowledging challenges such as budget limitations, time constraints, and concerns around willingness and adherence, showing a thoughtful and balanced perspective. Overall, the feasibility and practical strength of her solution came across very clearly.

4. What can be done better? Identify 2 or more areas of improvements (10 marks)

  1. The Slides: The PowerPoint itself could be made more visually captivating. Potential of adding more graphics, icons, or visual examples to help draw the audience in and enhance overall engagement.
  2. Time Management: Since the presentation finished a couple of minutes under the allotted time, Monica could consider using that extra time to further build on her solution, discuss examples, and build on implementations.

5. What can be done to improve? (Provide 3 or more suggestions for improvement). (15 marks)

  1. Enhance slide engagement and visual appeal. The slideshow could be strengthened by incorporating visuals that align more closely with the content, such as photographs relevant to agency nursing, workflow challenges, or unit environments. Adding simple graphs or charts to illustrate key points would also increase engagement. Using more visuals could further help the audience stay focused and connected to the solution.
  2. Include a detailed, site-specific example of the proposed orientation model. Since there was extra time available, adding a brief example or scenario (even could be specifically tied to your current unit) would help to clarify what the enhanced orientation process would look like in practice. Walking through “a day in the orientation,” a sample workflow, or steps could deepen understanding and show exactly how the solution minimizes the issue.
  3. Integrate the selected research article more thoroughly. The research article you chose was very relevant and included strong points about implementation strategies. Bringing those findings into the presentation more in-depth (such as quoting a key statistic, summarizing a barrier identified in the study, or linking your solution to the study’s recommendations) would help solidify why your proposal is both practical and evidence-based.
